Club Notices

New directions for Strangford Lough entrance

Following recent Government Marine Surveys in the area between Ballywalter and Guns Island new Notices to Mariners were issued.  The Irish Cruising Club noted significant changes to charted depths and locations of rocks  with revisions to depths in Strangford Entrance being of particular concern.

On Monday 20th January 2014 an Irish Cruising Club team assisted by the invaluable help of Desi and Jeremy Rogers cross checked the new information contained in the Government survey findings.  We have confirmed that the traditional and charted transits that we have all been using for many years through the North and West channels are not now advisable at MLWS and as a  result The Irish Cruising Club have determined new recommended transits and amended our North and East Sailing Directions accordingly.

New rocks and charted depths between Ballywalter and Guns Island have also been noted and it is advised that charts should be corrected accordingly. These changes will all be reflected in the next Admiralty chart issue for the area – date unknown at this time.

The ICC 12th edition North and East  Sailing Directions are due to be released in March 2014 and will include all the latest information. Meanwhile the information is available via this link …
